Battlements of Taroudannt

Remparts de TaroudantBattlements of Taroudant constitute a wall 7,5 km long, completely built in believed ground (in fact, tâbiyas of varied nature), marked out by 130 towers and 19 bastions of angle where, historically six doors existed: Bab Lahjer, al-Kasbah Bab, Bab Zourgane, Bab Targhount, Bab Oulad Bounouna and Bab Lakhmiss.

Beyond a first appearance of homogeneity and good conservation, multiple threats of diverse orders pressed on this architectural set : earthquakes producing effects of cutting which facilitate the opening of traversantes cracks, humidity resulting from vertical infiltrations and accumulation in foot of wall of waste water of the city, the wars - with use of the artillery from the XVth century, and finally today, a conquering town planning.

But the homogeneity of the construction is only visible and numerous occasions and works strike this construction for a long time, and we could rather speak " about an academy of the techniques of the raw ground operated during ten centuries ".

Because, and even even today, the conservation of these battlements goes of simple repairs (for example in foundation) to the more or less important repairs even until the reconstruction - total or partial - of whole sections.

It sees itself on parties recently redone (as current today quoted the West / bus station) in comparison with more authentic parties (quoted the North), where we can observe very regular boxes of ground, organized in almost perfectly horizontal assizes (coffering of usual dimensions are 0,98 m of height for a length going from 1,90 to 2,10 m), where put down and crowned a tâbiya strongly loaded in lime (until 42 %, in certain cases), which gives to the material a rather characteristic whitish color.
